Ramayana To Re-Run On Television
Ramayana is a television series which follows the events of the famous Hindu epic. The show aired on TV during the late 80s and gained immense popularity. At that time, it broke all viewership records for Indian television and became the most-watched Indian television series by a mile. The show became so popular that some people threatened to burn down the local headquarters of the electricity board during a power outage.
The series was created by Ramanand Sagar and starred Arun Govil, Sunil Lahri, Deepika Chikhalia, and Dara Singh in pivotal roles. This series is a reservoir for social and moral values and sends out many positive messages that we all should listen to. William Dalrymple, a renowned Scottish historian wrote about how a hush would fall in the villages as people would flock around their TV sets to watch this exciting television show. In the cities, there were fewer people in the streets when the show was being aired, and even government officials would sometimes miss important meetings because of this show.
