India became independent on 15th August 1947 and after two and a half years India implanted its constitution. The Constituent Assembly of India took two years and eleven months to pass the new constitution. It was done on 26th January 1950. After India been declared a sovereign democratic republic, the people of India started celebrating this day as Republic Day.

How is Republic Day celebrated?
It is a day of great importance to India. It is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. People participate in various events. The preparations for Republic Day at Rajpath begin a month early. The roads are closed to the common people to avoid any objectionable activities and security purposes.
This year India will celebrate its Republic Day 2020. It is the 71st Republic Day of India. The chief guest this year is the president of Brazil. The celebration starts with the president of India hosting the national flag and singing the national anthem. After that, the Indian Army performs a parade, state-wide tableau, march past, etc. The entire atmosphere is filled with energy and the chanting of the national anthem “Jana Gana Mana”. Everybody gets ready before 8 AM to watch the festival at Rajpath, New Delhi on TV.
