Like any other festival, Chhath puja is also the most important one that is also celebrated with great pomp and show. The four-day festival plays a very important role in the life of every people. Although it is said that this festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar but if we observe minutely it will be found that many other states are also involved in its celebration. Chhath is nothing but it is the puja that is offered to Lord Surya and his wife Chhati Maiya. It is performed twice a year. One is celebrated during the summer month and the other one is done during winter.

Importance of the Chhath Puja:
It is a four-day festival and each day holds special importance. In the first day, the devotees take a dip into the river and offer a prayer before the Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. They also offer a prayer before them with a green gourd. Thus, this vegetable has great importance.
During the second day, they keep fast for the whole day and they even do not take drop water. This is called as Nirjala Vrat. This is the most crucial part of this puja. The third day is also followed by prayers that have to be made by dipping into the river. It is also accompanied by songs.
The fourth day is the last day of the puja. It is the day when the devotees offer namaskars to their Lords. It is termed as Usha Arghya. The prayer is offered along with sweets and fruits. The devotees offer prayers with full sincerity. They keep fast and it is broken when the prayer is offered. The last or the fourth day is the most important one and it is observed with due care and sincerity.

There is a great importance of Chhath puja. People worship Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya for giving them a wonderful and lovely life. Almost all the river Ghats are overcrowded during this puja. People take an active part in this celebration.
